How Yuji Acquired His Domain Expansion Against Sukuna?

Chapter 264 of Jujutsu Kaisen gave the fans the first glimpse into Yuji’s Domain Expansion and this moment was crucial to the entire series. Something which has been expected since 4 years, so, if the author is finally delivering it, it only means that the story is extremely close to the finale.

Yuji has now reached the point where he can effectively employ the absolute pinnacle of Jujutsu Sorcery, and this just goes to show. Not only fans marvel at Yuji accessing these powers but there is much more from him yet to come. The next chapter of JJK is expected to highlight what Yuji’s domain is all about, and fans are already eager to see its powers. However, there are a lot of fans who are unclear how Yuji’s domain manifested in the first place. Well, this is how it all happened for an individual who did not even have any Innate Technique initially.

The Link Between Sukuna and Yuji’s Domain Expansion

Right now, the only reason Yuji even has a domain expansion is Sukuna. When Yuji became his vessel, Gojo stated that he will end up absorbing that cursed energy and that the technique will be Sukuna’s own and Yuji. This was also supported by Shoko much later down the line when she also formed a similar idea. Audiences were expecting Yuji to get Sukuna’s ability at an earlier time but it only happened at a much later point in the series. Actually, fans themselves began feigning that Gojo’s hypothesis on Yuji acquiring these powers was untrue. However, everything finally began happening in the arc of the JJK, called the Shinjuku Showdown. Yuji developed a cursed technique that was most noticeable, which was later characterised as the Shrine cursed technique.

It was not only the fact that Yuji got Sukuna’s cursed technique, but at the same time, it was said that Yuji’s body was rather good at memorising things because it was once beside Sukuna’s host. For example, Yuji used reverse cursed technique, barrier techniques and many other powers in which he did not have to think while performing in front of his enemy because Sukuna used them in his body and Yuji’s muscles already knew how these techniques worked. He also has to remember that the technique he is using is not the same as Sukuna’s. Sukuna’s cursed technique targets nothing and everything that stands in front of him, while Yuji’s scissor-like marks refer to precise blows. However, let me assure you that the technique, in its basic concept, is the same.

However, there is more to the picture of Yuji using this Domain Expansion than just him having learned the Shrine technique. Up to this point, Yuji was completely inexperienced concerning any type of barrier techniques. When the time skip of JJK occurred, shortly before Shinjuku Showdown Arc, Yuji trained with Kusakabe, which fans know to use New Shadow Style, so things like simple domain. He even used this technique masterfully in his fight with Sukuna, and there’s no doubt it was absolutely perfect. In this period, Yuji could switch bodies two times. He did so once with Yuta and once with Kusakabe. He was trained in Simple Domain and possibly other barrier techniques as well.

Upon the return of his domain, Sukuna went on a rampage firing a storm of Malevolent Shrine at everyone around him including other sorcerers. Yuji could endure this 99-seconds domain from the simple domain that Kusakabe taught him. Without this technique, it would have undoubtedly been game over for Yuji.

However, fans also know that Yuji was able to perform this fantastic feat, and now, quite a ways later, this very class of ability is helping him fight against Sukuna. Connecting the dots, it becomes easy to understand how Yuji was able to pull off Domain Expansion.

A Game-Changer: Yuji’s Domain Expansion

Yuji used the concept of Domain Expansion in JJK chapter 264. For those who do not know how this technique was manifested in the first place, all they need to know is that Yuji has the power of the Shrine cursed technique, which one must understand that Sukuna sort of bestowed it upon him, and second, Yuji learned how to cast barriers thanks to the training with Kusakabe. When these two abilities are combined, one gets an opportunity to trigger and engage a Domain Expansion. 

However, that is something that remains challenging – to properly manifest a clear domain. For example, Megumi Fushiguro was capable of injecting his domain with his inherent ability, yet, he could only achieve an incomplete Domain Expansion. Of course, it is not easy to manifest a Domain Expansion, although Yuji was still able to do that, and there are two reasons for that primarily.The first is that Yuji was Sukuna’s ex-vessel. Since he was his host Yuji would know how to use Domain Expansion and most of it was probably just second nature.

Secondly, and most importantly, Yuji is a genius of sorts, himself. Yuji is not an individual to become underestimated, and it is because of his genius style of fighting that he got to unlock something that Megumi could not even bring to complete existence. Indeed, Yuji is an extremely powerful person when it comes to abilities, as well as being incredibly magnetic. Viewers realise that he has expanded into true Domain Expansion and that he will probably defeat the King of Curses in his territory.

Of course, what exactly falls under the powers of the domain that Yuji commands, fans have no idea about. To see that, fans will have to wait until JJK chapter 265 where the focus will be placed on Yuji’s fight against Sukuna in the domain. It appears that things are going to get rough from here and fans should expect an insanely intense fight, possibly the climax of the fight against the King of Curses. This battle has been nothing less than absolutely surreal and it needs a surrealist ending, which Yuji’s domain would provide in the next few chapters of the story. Let’s hope that the powers that this Domain Expansion holds will meet the expectations that the fans have for the story and demonstrate Yuji’s climb up the ranks of Jujutsu Sorcery by eliminating the King of Curses.
