Understanding Sukuna’s Techniques Against Gojo’s Domain in Shinjuku Arc Jujutsu Kaisen
Domain Expansions are deemed to be the most potent trick up any sorcerer’s sleeve and they are in fact known as the pinnacle of Jujutsu sorcery. There are many different variations of this powerful technique in Jujutsu Kaisen, most of which are performed by the strongest characters of the series. However, Gojo’s Unlimited Void is even higher class than other Domain Expansions and the second one after the Malevolent Shrine of Sukuna.
In fact, during the fierce fight between Gojo and Sukuna, at the start of the Jujutsu Kaisen Shinjuku Showdown arc, Sukuna never fell under the effects of the Unlimited Void even though it was opened 5 times by Gojo all together. Having centuries of experience and general insight about how Cursed Energy works, let’s see how Sukuna was not left incapacitated after Gojo opened his Domain during their battle.
How Unlimited Void Traps the Mind
Gojo’s Domain Expansion is unique and rather rare even for a Domain. Which is why it is kinda like he is being outwardly expressing his Limitless Cursed Technique, but mainly the concept of Infinity is entangled with his character, Gojo. Gojo specifically performs Unlimited Void through covering his middle finger of his right hand over the index finger in different circumstances, and its sure-hit ability renders his targeted opponent unable to move.

This is because as soon as the Domain is opened, an infinite amount of information is given to the victim and at such a rate that the victim is overwhelmed with the amount of information that he is receiving, such an overload makes the head move so that the person is left immobile on the chair. Combining this with Gojo’s Cursed Energy and the fact that his power is much stronger than most characters, it makes easy work of his target’s Cursed Energy, which just means he can do as he pleases to the opponents.
Sukuna’s Resistance to Unlimited Void
That is why people say that even if you defeat Sukuna, he will still follow you and continue chasing you, because it is not just his physical strength at all, but only his rich knowledge and mastery of Jujutsu sorcery. For this reason, Sukuna had knowledge of the precise defenses he required in order to increase the damage that results from Unlimited Void as he did in numerous ways. The first was the start of his own Domain Expansion to be precise the Malevolent Shrine.
The part where Malevolent Shrine is considered to be on the same level as Unlimited Void, which is significantly stronger than basically every other Domain in the series. Thus, when two of the strongest sorcerers fought in the Domain Clash, their Domains’ spells were opposite and more or less neutralized. Additionally, because of the sure-hit effect of Unlimited Void, Sukuna bound Binding Vows on himself as well as on his domain.
The first of these was to label all the surroundings by the sure-hit of Malevolent Shrine while excluding himself from it, which is what enabled him to prevent Unlimited Void’s sure-hit from affecting him directly. In addition, this Binding Vow also made the slashes of Malevolent Shrine even more powerful so they would be made more effective in subduing sure-hit since it turned out to be pretty successful on Sukuna since he did not absorb much damage from it.
Last but not least, in these Binding Vows, Sukuna managed to somehow employ Megumi’s Ten Shadows technique, and that he did, by transferring Mahoraga’s adaptation ability onto Megumi’s soul and not his own, Megumi would be the one that would feel the effects of Unlimited Void not him. It was a very smart move by the King of Curses, because thanks to it, not only was he protected against Unlimited Void, but he was also getting used to it to unleash it without using Mahoraga, which he had no time to summon during the Domain Clash with Gojo.

Last but not the least, Sukuna also was able to employ domain amplification in this battle as a means to effectively nullify unlimited void for a brief period of time. Domain Amplification is kind of like a summoning spell for a more concentrated version of a users’ Domain to wrap around themselves. This serves as a solid counter to many techniques, as demonstrated when Sukuna was able to nullify Infinity during the battle between him and Gojo.
In reality, by getting through Infinity using Domain Amplification, not only did Sukuna manage to hit and harm Gojo, but he also utilized everything involved by overcoming one of the latter’s Domain Expansions to touch Gojo. Because the sure-hit of ‘Unlimited Void’ targets everyone but Gojo himself,
Gojo’s immunity is transferred to anyone or anything directly in contact with him, which can be testified to by the episode from fearsome womb arc when Gojo used ‘Unlimited Void’ to attack Jogo while holding Yuji. The same can be applied here as Sukuna locked his hands with Gojo and defended himself against Unlimited Void.
